Humidifies well

We live outside the US in a country that is very dry almost all year round and use the humidifier with a transformer. We have had it running constantly since we received it two weeks ago. We ordered the replacement filters from LearningCurve.com and use filtered tap water. It is a simple, easy to use humidifier and I would recommend it to anyone who has a problem with dry air. We bought it mainly because we were having trouble sleeping because the air is so dry. It definitely makes a difference.
Best humidifier we've ever had!!

What a great humidifier to purchase for your baby's room or child's room!! This is the quietest humidifier we've ever had, and we've gone through quite a few! It's easy to fill, the filter does last a long time, and virtually noise-free. Highly recommend this humidifier over other ones!
Great Humidifier...and we have had 3!

We had our first child in September of 07. We started using a humidifier only at night from the day she was born. We had tried 2 different vicks brand cool mist humidifiers. Whether it is the water in our house (hard? soft? prone to mold?) whatever it was it made red mold in the humidifier grow CONSTANTLY! I would wash the humidifier filter out EVERYDAY and every other day I would rinse out the unit itself. Once a week I would spray bleach/water solution on it and let it air dry. To no avail, it would get mold. This humidifier has passed the test! It works great! Every day i rotate the filter and after 3 months of daily use it has started to get moldy so we will be replacing it. Every other day I fill the unit up and rinse it out. It works WONDERFULLY!! It adds enough white noise to my daughters room that she doesn't hear every little noise going on in the house, it does not disturb her sleep at all! I highly suggest buying this product!

I haven't tried many other brands/types, but I'm very happy with the this humidifier. We have two- one for each child's room. They are easy to maintain, and reasonably quiet.
great for nursery

Reviewer: MamaJones,
We bought this humidifier for our son's nursery and have been very pleased. It is very easy to use, and its hum is just the right white noise for sleeping. Our only problem was that Target stopped carrying it, so replacement filters have been hard to find locally.
Worked for Me

I bought this unit for myself to combat dry indoor air during the winter. I would not describe this humidifier as "whisper quiet," but it's not really noisy either. I checked the humidity with a hygrometer and it took a few days, but I soon began seeing the results I hoped for. I am using about 1/2 gallon of distilled water per day. The unit is easy to fill and clean.

One note: Don't expect to see actual "mist" coming from the unit, but be assured, it's working. They should just call it a "Cool Humidifier" and leave out the "Mist" part.

As for the user who said she couldn't find filters, a two minute google search found them at the Learning Curve (manufacturer's) website. amazon.com is also selling them now.

Where to get filters

I got tired of cleaning the filter that was falling apart, so I went to find an alternative one on line. I actually found one at Walmart made by Sunbeam. Sunbeam makes a Universal filter that can be cut to size. There are two in the box, but cut perfectly in half to make four filters for our unit. They have a charcoal backing and an indicator strip that tells you when to replace the filter. The box cost $8.00, which for us comes out to $2.00 a filter and they do not fall apart!
I love the unit and I think the white noise it makes helps my daughter fall asleep.
I hope this helps those who had trouble finding filters.
Good if you like the fan sound

This is not a "quiet" humidifier, it sounds like a small fan which was perfect for us since we usually sleep w/fans for noise anyway. It does not blow out a whole lot of moisture quickly, but will not get your carpet wet. We've had it 2 years and it still going.
Great little humidifier

This humidifier works great. We've had if for 18 months and only recently had to change the filter. (I wonder if you change the filter more often if the humidifier will be more quiet, though.)

I love it because a.) it humidifies my child's room and b.) it provides a little white noise, thus allowing her to sleep without interruption.

The noise on level 1 isn't loud in my opinion. It is on level 2, but we've never had to use level 2.

It is easy to fill. It leaked on us once, but that was because the gasket around the screw-on cap had fallen off when I was filling it. We put the gasket back on and were good to go.
Not bad but not the quietest humidifier

This humidifier is good, but it is not the quietest one I've had. I have a much quieter one in my bedroom which actually appears to humidify the air better also as it uses more water. However, the gentle white-noise of this humidifier is good as it drowns out other noises at my toddler's naptime and at night too. And it does slowly humidify the room so I have to rate it as ok. I believe the one I have in my room is a Sunbeam, it's really very quiet.
A Bit Loud

Review Date: January 12, 2008
Reviewer: Wendy,
Based on other reviews I chose this humidifier expecting it to be very quiet. It was actually quite loud so we returned it and have purchased another. If not for the bedroom, perhaps it would have been ok. We turned it off before we got a sense of how well it humidified as we could not sleep.
Works fine

I have no complaints about this humidifier when we were able to use it. It's quiet and seems to be efficient. However, the replacement filters just don't seem to exist, not even at the store we bought it in. I also think it went through the filter really fast (only two or three weeks of periodic use) and we use filtered water.
it is ok

I bought this at a local store about a month ago. It does humidify the room nice. It does not soak the surface it on - no condensation but it is so not quiet. The noise does not bother the baby so that is fine.
Worked fine .. but no filters, as the other comment

Bought this a while ago in longs drugs store. But couldn't find the replacement filters. Hard to find; available only online. Also this humidifies only small rooms; also even on small rooms, if you are used to run the heater to maintain 68-70 F during Winter, with this humidifier your throat still gets dry. So if you are about to buy, I would suggest you buy a common brand like Vicks, so you get replacement filters everywhere.
Not that quiet, easy to spill water when cleaning daily

I have had this unit for almost 3 years. As far as durability, it's still working 3 years later. However, it goes through filters often. However, every humidifier I've bought goes through filters quickly. Its a problem with filters, but it keeps bacteria out of the air better than other kinds. The bigger problem was finding replacement filters. It took much web surfing to find a place to buy them from. If you buy this unit, I recommend buying several filters at a time, that way you always have some on hand.
My biggest problem with the unit is that the lowest setting is not that quiet. I also did not think it did the best job humidifying the air.
One other issue I had was emptying the "base". I ended up spilling water every time I carried it to the sink. Other models have a larger base and spilling water is not a problem.
Where are the filters?!

I hate to buy a replacement humidifier since I bought this one less than a year ago, but I can't find replacement filters! The original filter mildewed and I can't find another. Buyer's remorse.
piece of crap

this was the worst humidifier i have ever used. it was an absolute piece of crap. we purchased this item for our nursery and the first time we used it it leaked all over the entire floor. at first i thought we had placed the tank on incorrectly but after looking it over all of the parts were in working order. we took it apart and put it back together again and hoped that maybe this time it would be alright. (after placing it on a tile floor to test out). for the first 3 hours it was going fine. as soon as the machine was turned off it leaked out all over the place again. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT!!!
Rubber glue oder

I bought this yesterday at Target and will be returning it immediately. I noticed an unpleasant, rubber glue or plasticy smell when I opened the package, but decided to hook it up anyway. Big mistake. Now the room I was trying to humidfy for my sick baby smells awful...I truly don't think it is safe for him to sleep in a room with such odor that obviously portends fumes.
Get a different appliance

Reviewer: SRB,
When the filter was new it worked well. As soon as the filter had a little age to it you could not feel any humidity in the air. The filters were very hard to find the first 1.5 years I had it and now I cannot find them at all. They are also pricey and the appliance is loud. I use it as a noise machine now; I have two other children and the appliance drowneds out their noise so the toddler can sleep. I hate to say this about an American Red Cross product but do not waste your money.
lame product

waste of money. We used to have one, it died. Bt since we had 4 filters left, we decided to try it again. It really is only a white noise machine, as no mist/cool air comes out. The water level stayed teh same for days. We gave up & bought one of the frog shaped ones you can get ahywhere & it works great. Do not buy this as it is a waste of money.
How do we say Jet engine

Review Date: March 8, 2008
Reviewer: Tressie, Connecticut
I have had many humidifiers through the years even larger multi-area units and never one as loud. It says ultra quiet.... Only if you are comparing it to a jet engine.... The first night it was running I had family members coming to my room asking what the awful sounds was... And it was on the lowest setting. The highest setting was way too loud but on low it didn't really give out any mist.... That is what a humidifier is suppose to do. I wish they didn't make you rate this with any stars... it would be better if they let you put in numbers...Like negative 5
No filters & noisy

Like the other reviewers said, I had trouble getting replacement filters and it was fairly loud. Eventually you will need the filters. I could only find 1 store online that offered them and they were not cheap. With the "American Cross" label I thought I was getting a quality product. Apparently that was not the case...
This humidifier doesn't humidify

Review Date: November 3, 2009
Reviewer: J. Fisher, Utah
I've had this for over a year now. Replacement filters are hard to find, and this doesn't work without one. Also, the filter goes moldy really quickly. You can't reach into the tank to clean it. And it doesn't humidify-- it just blows cool air. I hate this thing.
Worst Purchase ever!

I have nothing to say, because I never got you use it. It just doesn't work from the beginning. We tried every thing, simply turn on and off again and look for buttons. Well, , there are not many buttons to play with anyway; Only ONE knob.
